NOLA MANDELS

What's your superpower? / What do you want it to be?

If I were able to choose one superpower it would probably be the ability to choose when I do and don't fall asleep. I have this thing, that I fall asleep anywhere at anytime, so this would be pretty useful. Silly for most, perfect for me.

How do you express gratitude?

I try to express gratitude by giving back. Volunteering not only my time but my energy with others. I have volunteer in food kitchens and reading to children who may not have an authority figure in their own life to do it. It feeds my soul like nothing else. We are constantly taking taking our whole life, we must give back at some point. Also being grateful for what I have at this very moment.

Why do you share yoga?

I feel as if teaching yoga is a duty I must fulfill. I want to create a safe place where people can come to move and breath freely with no expectations or judgements. Beyond the amazing physical effects of yoga, it goes deeper then that. Watching people discover their inner truth is so rewarding. This practice sets the tone for a more conscious, compassionate, and balanced life. Why do I share yoga ? To help people move from a more living place within, which is contagious and in turn creates a more loving world. See it's a cycle, were all connected !

What's your favorite pose? Why?

I live for any kind of forward fold, but especially Prassarita Podottanasana. I get the inversion of my heart above my head but the wide angle of my legs feels so amazing on the inner thighs and hips. I could be in it all day.

When was the last time you laughed out loud?

Last time I laughed was probably last night once we finally got the bat out of our apartment that somehow made its way in. Also side note, one of the most terrifying moments of my life, but after all was said and done, it definitely caused a good laugh.

What always makes you smile?

Chips, guacamole, and Twin Peaks.

What does flow mean to you?

Flow holds so many meanings. When it comes to my practice and to teaching, I think flow embodies that state you reach when you are no longer consumed by your thoughts but lost in the dance of your body and breath. That place when you feel a glimpse of total and complete peace within.

What can our TGY friends expect from your class?

Coming to a class of mine you can expect to look within and begin peeling back the layers we all have.  Discovering out truest self. Beginning to break down the inner armor by conscious breath and movement.
